Db3.1 book

The Design layout I choose to work with is very structured in certain ways, I'm trying to keep the book simple and clean, without too many distracting visuals.
the dimension are 7 by 7, with a 1 inch margin o frame the work.

on each page the page number is designed more like an image rather than text, with the title of the book being the constant text and the page number...

On the image below, he left side of the page is an example of a pull quote that has been taken out

iCuba

In my exploration of the arts, i was visiting the Montreal museum fine arts this week, and ran into an interesting typographic screen based installation that was featured in the iCuba exhibition.

It is by a Cuban Artist named Ernesto Oroza, the work is called from "Aachen to Zürich 2005"
the work is projected onto a w
all and features the word "Revolution" in Spanish stylized in over 200 fonts
there is a brief intro on youtube that give you a taste of the work. unfortunately the quality is horrible and it dose not even captivate you in the least bit as the original, which was
entrancing...

working class- Inspiration for finial protect!

Inspiration for finial protect

For the final I was thinking of doin an istallation or maybe a screen based work, using flash or even Processing to create a text manipulator involving user interaction, because those are more of my comfort zones,
but print based work might be the way I'm headed
I ran across this really cool blog of someone studying to do there MA in graphic design.
last Semester i tried working with text and plexi glass.... i learnt my lesson there..
this semester might i be wood?.... crazy idea, but this link was very inspirational when looking for ideas for my final project
She printed on a table....

re submit db 2 "texTPod"

After seeing the work of other students in class, i was allowed to rework the design Brief.
Taking into account the actual content of the story i wanted to visually represent what the concept of the article was about, yet still keep the work looking very simplistic.

I took the typical image of an iPod and decided o recreate it with words.
The reason i chose not to manipulate my original image was because acts perfectly as the screen for the ipod, or in this case the "texTPod"...
The headline in this case is used as the focal point around the screen and is read clockwise
"fabric could power your iPod"
I chose to use color on the first letter of each textual break. so that the reader would know where to start and then continue.
I also chose to leave a little bit of space on the "control panel" or the circular textual element.
I felt this gave room for the numerical elements and create a little bit of movement.
I used the weather information that was required as the numerical buttons, which worked out well.
Because we we're supposed to occupy 3 out of the 9 squares , bu not 3 in a row, i chose the one to the right and middle which i think also worked out well visually.

db2 printed version due

The article that i was inspired to work with has to do with technological advances in clothing .
as a cart student this interest me, very much because one of our professor " Joey Bertzowski" works in this field and there are classes in which Dart students can further there studies in this interest with her.

The article is called:

"Fabric Could Power Your iPod"

http://www.newser.com/story/18973.html

The size of the text goes from the title which has the most importance to the body text decreasingly, working its way inwards in a structured way which mimics the image element.

Creating the Font

The 7 letters i chose to create were " E.L.D.F.S.C.P"
The character i find to be most sucessful is the"E"
and the least sucessful is the "C" or the "P"
The changes that i would make to the"C" is slightly shorthen the top of the c, so that it would coinside with the top of the E and the F, also these two character are a little slimer than the others, which i did not notice until later.
The use of the drop shadow was done to create depth and emphasizes the character as a whole.
Although the word "SELF" seems to hold together sucessfully.

Experiements

These are a few of the sketches that were done before the final product was created. I had more of a difficult time working on paper than when i started in Illustrator.Because illustrator has the grid options and blocks to work with, i found the digital environment easier to work within.
